Abstract

In this chapter, we will present an agent who actively participated in the spiritual conquest of the indigenous peoples during the colonization of the Alto Perú territory: the yanacona missionary interpreter. First, we will focus on describing the corpus we are using to recover this figure. Next, we will describe their participation in the colonization as a product of the confluence of the linguistic policies of civil powers and religious orders. Finally, we will portray their role within the hierarchy of colonial authorities.
